Just as Australia has strong ties with New Zealand – historical, strategic, cultural and regional – The Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) has strong relationships with relevant New Zealand agencies. The Deputy Executive Director position at ACMC is filled by a member of New Zealand Government (currently NZ Police), in recognition of the strong and necessary ties between the countries, and the need to remain linked on Civil-Military-Police issues.
Unlike Australia, New Zealand has a single national Police service, with the principle mission of working with the community to make New Zealanders be safe and feel safe. NZ Police operates an International Police Officer Liaison pool within countries that New Zealand has strong cultural, strategic and regional links. ACMC works with the Australian based NZ Police liaison Officers, the Australian and New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) and relevant NZ Police Departments to ensure that NZ Police priorities are included in the thinking, work and deliverables of ACMC.
