Strengthening Indo-Pacific disaster management capabilities

ACMC supported the UN Asia-Pacific Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in delivering UN Civil-Military Coordination (UN CMCOORD) training in Brisbane on 22- 27 June 2025. The course involved participants from 17 Indo-Pacific countries.

The Indo-Pacific is the world’s most disaster-prone region. The increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters requires government agencies, militaries and NGOs to consider how they can better prepare and respond to crises together.

“When disasters strike, the affected population will rely on a well-coordinated response which considers the needs of diverse communities. UNOCHA is the custodian of international principles on how to best coordinate crisis response between civilian and military actors. The course we supported this week teaches and practices these principles, and puts participants in the shoes of actors responding to complex situations. This course is instructed by UNOCHA globally, we are really happy to have one here in Brisbane tailored to an Indo-Pacific audience,” ACMC’s Executive Director, Nicola Rosenblum said.

“This course reflects ACMC’s enduring commitment to strengthening regional partnerships in civil-military coordination to collectively meet the increasing complexity of future challenges.”
