Emerging threats – potential implications for Women, Peace and Security

How can emerging cyber threats, misinformation and disinformation disproportionately affect women and girls? Cailin Crockett, Senior Advisor to the White House Gender Policy Council, led a US delegation who met with officials from DFAT, the Department of Defence, Home Affairs and ACMC to discuss how the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security should be viewed in light of emerging digital and cyber threats. The forum analysed implications of these threats on national and international security, especially when women in positions of leadership are targeted. Participants also provided updates on activities their respective governments are doing to implement the Resolution on Women, Peace and Security.

UN Security Council Resolution 1325 affirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.
