ACMC joined representatives from across South East Asia and the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM) to further enhance disaster risk assessment, preparedness and response.
Southeast Asia is one of the most disaster prone regions of the world, regular experiencing cyclones and floods. The three-day regional resilience workshop in Dili, Timor-Leste was an opportunity to share insights from previous responses, explore ways to further strengthen cooperation and consider developments, including an AI-enhanced early warning system.
ACMC’s Deputy Director-General David Proctor provided updates on ACMC’s engagement with regional partners and research initiatives which can inform future enhancement to disaster preparedness and response arrangements.
“This workshop brought together a wide range of experience and perspectives. It was an important opportunity to learn from each other and understand how together we can mitigate the impact of future natural disasters,” Mr Proctor said.
CFE-DM facilitated the workshop, alongside Timor-Leste agencies, representatives from Southeast Asian nations, the Changi Regional HADR Coordination Centre, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) and civil society.
