ACMC’s Pacific focus at HNPW - Geneva

ACMC joined a panel of experts to discuss challenges in disaster response and civil-military-police coordination in the Indo-Pacific region

ACMC joined a panel of experts to discuss challenges in disaster response and civil-military-police coordination in the Indo-Pacific region, as part of Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW) in Geneva.
HNPW is one of the largest annual humanitarian meetings, featuring representatives from the United Nations, member states, NGOs and academia.
ACMC Deputy Executive Director, Dave Proctor (NZL), joined a panel discussion on ‘Navigating the challenges in the Asia-Pacific landscape” Mr Proctor briefed delegates on disaster response mechanisms and challenges in the Pacific.
“HNPW brings together many of the world’s leading humanitarian experts. This is an important opportunity to share our latest insights and research on disaster preparedness and response arrangements and consider how collectively we can enhance what we do,” Mr Proctor said.
“The Pacific is prone to a range of natural disasters including cyclones, earthquakes and flooding. ACMC will continue to work with our Pacific partners, including emergency responders and civil society, to build capacity.”
The panel included representatives from Singapore’s Changi Regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Coordination Centre (RHCC), United States Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM), Singapore Red Cross and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre).
Our engagement in Geneva coincides with a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) workshop in Fiji, delivered by ACMC with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Fiji National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).
