Research Project

The Australian Civil Military Centre (ACMC) has contracted Pilotage Consulting to conduct a Research Project to identify learnings from civil-military operations in response to international and domestic crises between 1997-2022.

A key aspect of the Australian Civil-Military Centre’s (ACMC) Lessons Management Program this year is a major research project to identify recurring lessons from Australia’s civil-military response to domestic and international crises over the last 30 years.

ACMC has engaged Pilotage Consulting to conduct this research. A key part of the project will be engaging with Government agencies and NGOs to source after-action, post-activity and debrief reports and any other documentation that identifies what worked well and what could be improved.

We are seeking your assistance to provide any relevant documents or other points of contact that may have documents by 29 Feb 2024.

Information provided will be de-identified to ensure no specific agency details or names are included in the report. All documentation will be managed in accordance with Defence Security Principle Framework requirements.

The key project outcome will be a report summarising the identified lessons for use by civil-military practitioners.

With your assistance we can help inform Australian involvement in future civil-military operations and leverage the diverse subject matter expertise and capabilities across our civilian and military organisations.

Points of contact for any inquiries and provision of documents are Dr Allison Sonneveld, Lead Researcher: allison.sonneveld1@defence.gov.au or Mark Cuthbert, ACMC Lessons Manager: lessons@acmc.gov.au
