A partnership between the Australian Civil-Military Centre and the Asia Pacific Military Law Centre

Training Level

The Workshop is the initial segment of the ACMC training program designed for operational level personnel at the EL2/MAJ or LTCOL level.

Participants

The five day residential Workshop brings together:

  • Non government aid organisations
  • Embassy personnel
  • International defence  and non-government organisation personnel
  • Australian Federal Police and emergency services personnel
  • Australian Government Departments
  • Military operational planning staff, specialist civil-military interaction staff, information officers, military police.

Workshop aim

To develop working relationships and an understanding of the cultures and practices of the military, police, UN and  Non–government organisations as they apply to disaster management, humanitarian, policing, stabilisation and peacekeeping operations.

 

Workshop Objectives

  • To acquire a critical understanding of emerging civil-military issues in the areas of conflict prevention, the protection of civilians,  gender, governance, the rule of law, disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and peace and stabilisation operations.
  • To identify, assess and evaluate interagency opportunities for civil-military-police interaction.
  • To analyse the civil-military factors relevant to the conduct of civil-military strategies or actions.
  • To apply lessons learned.
  • To develop approaches for partnering, cooperation and collaboration.
  • To build relationships with other cross-sector/within-sector practitioners from other agencies, organizations, institutions, and countries.

The workshop also provides an opportunity for Australian Civilian and Military Personnel to engage with their civilian and military counterparts from the Asia Pacific, Middle East and African Regions for the benefit of future civil-military operations.

Workshop Format

The CMIW format consists of presentations followed by a syndicate exercise designed to illuminate and consolidate matters raised during presentations and discussions.

Cost

Participants need to travel to Melbourne Airport at their own expense. All other costs are borne by ACMC.
